The Compass English test is also called the Compass writing test.

The examination assesses your ability to write correctly in the English language.

The English test contains essays of approximately 200 to 250 words each.

Each passage on this part of the examination will have 15 to 22 numbered phrases.

The numbered phrase may be correct, or it may contain an error of punctuation, sentence structure, grammar, or expression.

You will need to choose the correct answer from the five choices provided.

Answer option A will always be the same as the phrase from the essay.

English Sample - Punctuation Question

Now read the brief sample below, and have a look at each of the different types of questions after it.

Note that on the actual English exam, you will choose the answer by moving your mouse over the answer choices provided in the passage.

(1) A group of English separatists known as the pilgrims first left England to live in Amsterdam, in 1608. (2) After spending a few years in their new city, apart from this, many members of the group (3) felt whose they did not have enough independence. (4) Hence, in 1617, the pilgrims decided to leave Amsterdam to immigrate to America.
